POSITION SUMMARY: The Quality Assurance Supervisor provides leadership for the development, implementation, and administration of the QA function to ensure product safety, conformity, and integrity with respect to the customer, company, and regulatory requirements. The Quality Assurance Supervisor is responsible for ensuring proper maintenance of existing programs (HACCP, PCQI, GMPs, Pest Control, etc.) while overseeing the development and maintenance of quality documentation, translation of sanitation guidelines into company policies, management of audits conducted by third-party inspectors.

What's Expected

HACCP Development and Supervision



· Serve as a key member on the team that oversees and implements new programs regarding food safety quality.

· Manage the company's HACCP program.

· Translate regulatory requirements into company policies (HACCP, safety, sanitation, etc.)

· Implement and improve HACCP Programs and ensure existing programs are updated in order to meet BRC requirements and any other company or Legislative Requirements.

· Oversee all aspects of the BRC Audit.

· HACCP Plan and Pre-requisite programs review with the rest of HACCP/Food Safety Team members.

· Develop training programs in collaboration with the QA/HACCP Coordinator & Production Supervisor, present those training programs to production personnel.

· Coordinate with Director of Technical Services Federal inspections and other audits.

· Assume responsibility for BRC Program.

QA Supervision


· Develop standard operating procedures governing the Quality Assurance function.

· Investigating, tracking, and resolving incidents of non-conforming product (finished goods and raw materials); implementing strategies and process refinements to prevent future incidents of non-conforming product.

· Handles customer complaints through use of root cause analysis.

· Ordering, assigning, and replacing personal protection item and uniforms for new, existing, and temporary personnel

· Coordinate periodic inspection of production lines to confirm product meets quality specifications as required by the company and customer, and personnel are adhering to GMPs.

· Help monitor quality metrics to confirm plant personnel are in compliance with safety, sanitation, and other regulatory requirements.

· Develop and maintain specifications for packaging, products, and ingredients.

· Maintain the documentation log and assigning document tracking numbers.

· Collaborate with Production Supervisor/Director of Technical Services* to establish numerical targets by which Quality Assurance's performance is routinely gauged.

· Routinely monitor the QA function to confirm consistent performance with goals and numerical targets.

· Oversee trace, recall and perform testing two (2) times a year.

· Monitors QA processes to identify ways to improve processes and efficiency.

· Executes/coordinates plans for continuous improvement for operations.

· Review and maintenance of QA records.

· Provide Corporate management with quality data information

Audit Tasks

· Aid in ensuring the company completes all audits with the highest score possible.

· Regularly reviews completed audits of plant facilities and grounds to confirm compliance.

· Assist with other audits as requested by the Director of Technical Services

· Supervise the company's HACCP program.

· Conduct regular audits of documentation as required to confirm that documentation, plant wide, is current.


Communication with Production

· Communicate on a regular basis with Plant Management, including but not limited to Lead Hands and Shipping/Receiving on all QA issues.

· Supervise QA checks of all raw products as per raw material monitoring schedule, ensuring product meets company's specs; advise management of any inferior product.

· Supervise QA checks of all finished products prior to the product being released form the facility. Advise Management of any Food Safety or Quality Issues.

· Supervise chemical, microbiological and sensory evaluations on ingredients and finished products.

Safety

· Head the Safety Committee

· Promote and influence plant safety.


Preparation of Ingredients

· Check environmental hygiene and safety.

· Check water quality and safety annually.

· Ensure adherence to Good Manufacturing Practices.

· Maintain product formulas and update when approved.

Education& Training

· Create and manage ongoing development/training programs designed to educate production/plant personnel as well as QA and Warehouse.

· Follow standard induction training programs for new employees.

· Disseminate up-to-date information on food safety issues.

Food Safety & Quality/Legal Requirements

· Comply with all Food Safety, Quality and Legal requirements written in each SOP pertaining to job duties.

· Report any infractions of Food Safety, Quality or Legality to supervisor.

· Follow personal hygiene practices as documented.


OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Monitoring of Food Safety and Quality Objectives; trending of objectives.
  • Training of QA and Production Employees as per the training matrix.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage a team of QA/QC employees.
  • Thorough knowledge of hygiene, HACCP, GMPs, Pest Control, Recall, Auditing, Cleaning and Allergen Management as well as other pre-requisite programs as they relate to food industry.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel.
  • Experience in maintaining Global Food Safety Certification
  • Excellent knowledge of how production processes affect the quality of product.
  • Ability to multi-task and possess good organizational and prioritization skills and the flexibility to adapt to a fast paced, changing work environment.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Time management and prioritization skills.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.

EDUCATION:


Bachelor's degree (Master's preferred) in agricultural engineering, food science, chemistry, food microbiology, or another relevant technical field.


EXPERIENCE:


  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in food manufacturing in a Quality Assurance/Quality Control capacity.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of supervisory/management experience.
  • Thorough knowledge of HACCP, GMP's, PCQI, OSHA, Auditing, and Plant Sanitation

POSITIONS SUPERVISED:


Supervises the Quality Assurance department including laboratory staff.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS:


Normal office conditions apply. Employee must have clear, close vision for reading and computer work. Must be able to sit, stand, walk, balance, stoop, grasp, talk, hear and operate computer keyboard. Job may require reaching at shoulder level and below waist.
